Season
No season. Plants run continuously and hurricanes are the only thing that stops them.

Five producers at major Gulf Coast plants. The packaging and warehousing companies that bag resin for them are a second, less contested call list.
Ask which form it ships in before anything else. Bulk pellets go out in pneumatic tank trailers to converters with silos, and that is a specialised fleet. Bagged resin, gaylords and boxed material go in ordinary dry vans and that is where a general carrier gets in. Ask for the logistics group at the plant, and for the packaging warehouse separately.
Where it hauls
The Chemical Coast, and very little else. The corridor from Houston and Baytown through Freeport and Point Comfort in Texas, then east through Lake Charles and the lower Mississippi in Louisiana, holds the overwhelming majority of US capacity. Pellets move from there to converters across the midwest and southeast who blow, mould and extrude them into product, and increasingly to the ports for export to Asia. The producers to know:
How to open
"Do you move bagged and boxed resin as well as bulk? I've got van capacity out of the Gulf and I'd like the packaged side."
To the plants and packagers, January into FebruaryNaming the packaged side is the whole opening. Everyone assumes resin means pneumatic tanks, so the van freight gets less attention than the volume deserves.
Qualifying questions
- Bulk pellets or packaged? Bulk goes in pneumatic tank trailers and needs a converter with a silo and a blower. Bagged, boxed and gaylord resin goes in a dry van. Completely different equipment, so establish it in the first minute.
- What does it scale? Resin is light for its volume in bags but bulk loads run to weight. Get the pounds and the packaging format, because a gaylord load and a bulk load are not comparable.
- Is the trailer clean and dry? Resin contamination is a serious and expensive problem, and moisture ruins hygroscopic grades. Expect strict prior-load and cleanliness requirements even on packaged freight.
- Is it going to a converter or the port? Converter delivery runs to a production schedule. Port drayage runs to a vessel cutoff. Export is a growing share of Gulf resin, so ask which one this is.
- What happens in hurricane season? Plants shut and then restart hard, and the recovery period is genuinely chaotic. Asking shows you understand the one thing that interrupts this freight.
When to call
January and February, when annual arrangements are set. Production is continuous otherwise. The genuine disruption is hurricane season: a storm on the Texas coast shuts plants and then floods the market with recovery freight afterwards, and carriers who were already set up are the ones who get called.
